The Valencia Apartments are officially back open after renovation.

A ribbon cutting was held on Monday to celebrate the reopening.

The four building, 32 unit apartment complex was put on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. However, the buildings sat vacant for several years after the recession.

Urban Equity Properties started construction in 2017 and invested $5 million into the complex.

The first resident moved in last spring, though today was the grand opening.

"We saw a need," said Justin Fern, of Urban Equity Properties."There were a lot of good folks that wanted to live in the neighborhood that could afford market rate housing."

The apartments are at in the 500 block of Fisher Avenue in Rockford.
